With our theme of health, human, technology for this year’s Demo Day, we would like to know what humans or technology has inspired you most in healthcare?

From tech, definitely VR for pain management and mental health. I look forward to it being more widely available in Europe.

Of people, the first person that comes to mind is Sean Khozin – the CEO of CancerLinQ, a non-profit health technology company focused on improving the quality of care and health outcomes for all patients with cancer – because he is an oncologist and a data scientist and can offer a great insight and understanding in the latest practical use-cases of AI in healthcare, since oncology treatments are increasingly personalised due to the improvements in the amount of genomic data, research and tech advancements.

What role do you think healthcare plays in the future of humans and technology?

Interesting question, since a more common one would be what role technology plays in healthcare.

We tend to take health for granted until we lose it. When that happens, good access to quality healthcare is imperative for recovery and living. Healthcare will always be an integral part for humans. It enables us not just to survive but also to live when we have good treatment outcomes. And when we live, we can follow our ambitions and contribute to society.

As for the impact of healthcare on technology: We are witnessing the aging of the population, rising workforce shortages, changing expectations of working conditions in healthcare, the emphasis on the need to improve the user experience of patients, and the move to provide as much care as possible at home. All these trends are driving the need for new devices and new software solutions for optimization to support the sustainability of healthcare delivery. The gold rush for data gathering and research in healthcare is continuing. All this is creating market needs, and when there are market needs, there’s VC interest. I think it will be interesting to see what kinds of companies will spring up by the highly specialized workforce from Big Tech, which suffered from layoffs and is now free to start developing their own new solutions.

What are you most looking forward to at the Vision Health Pioneers Incubator Demo Day 2023?

There is nothing more inspiring than to see innovative solutions and the grit of founders to do whatever it takes to bring their solutions to market to help patients or clinicians. So I definitely look forward to the energy we will experience at this Demo Day!
